BOARD OF PERMANENT SECRETARIES HOSTS RETIREMENT EVENT

The Board of Permanent Secretaries hosted a retirement event on Saturday 1st November 2014 at the Trinidad Hilton and Conference Centre, to honour nine (9) Permanent Secretaries who retired from the Public Service between 2012 and 2014.

In recognising their dedicated career with, and contribution to, the Public Service, Head of the Public Service and Permanent Secretary to the Prime Minister, Mr. Reynold Cooper acknowledged the integral role of the retirees in the development of the Public Service and the country. He said, “This event gives us the opportunity to celebrate their achievements and thank them for their contributions”. Minister of Public Administration, the Honourable Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan, urged the retirees to fully embrace the theme of the event, New Beginnings, and to take the opportunities afforded in retirement to do the things about which they are most passionate. Acknowledging their tremendous contribution to the Service and to the nation, she noted, “In many ways your generation of public servants was perhaps the most important since you bridged the period between the first post-Independence stalwarts, to the present Permanent Secretaries”. She also acknowledged other retired Permanent Secretary stalwarts present in the audience, including John Andrews, Kathleen Boswell Innis, Vicky Carrington, Rupert Mends, Patrick Alleyne, Irma Brown and Davindra Duggal.

Ms. Alison Lewis, spoke on behalf of the nine honourees, and noted that together, they had given more than two hundred years of service to Trinidad and Tobago. The nine honourees were Ms. Jennifer Jones, Ms. Antonia Popplewell, Ms. Margaret Farray, Ms. Alison Lewis, Mrs. Jennifer Boucaud-Blake, Ms. Myrna Thompson and Ms. Hermia Tyson-Cuffie Ms. Cheryl Blackman and Ms. Kathleen Thomas. The Retirement event is held biennially and is meant to continue the tradition of honouring retired Permanent Secretaries, celebrating their work lives and contributions to the Public Service. We take this opportunity to wish them good health and a good life as they enter a new beginning in their lives.
