MINISTRY OF PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION GOES GREEN Recycling Thrust To Benefit Schools
When it comes to positive environmental action, employees of the Ministry of Public Administration (MPA) are practicing what they preach, especially when it comes to recycling. As part of demonstrating and encouraging recycling as a way of life in the workplace and to make recycling a routine and ongoing activity, Ministry staff have joined the Directory Recycling Programme sponsored by TSTT and the SAVE Foundation (Secure a Vibrant Environment). For each old directory it collects, the Ministry will receive $1 which it will donate to a school.
The recycling drive forms part of the Ministry’s ongoing green initiatives and is not limited to directories, but also includes magazines and brochures.
At its Earth Hour activity on Friday 28th March 2014, the Ministry launched its ‘Power of One’ campaign which encourages employees to create and execute projects at work or in their communities which are aligned to Recycling, Community Outreach or Conservation.
“Recycling is one of the easiest sustainable actions people can take to show that they care for and appreciate the environment,” said the Honourable Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan, Minister of Public Administration. She added, “At our Ministry the easiest way to start recycling is with paper, but we are also recycling glass and plastic bottles as part of our thrust.”
Earth Hour is an International initiative aimed at encouraging environmental awareness and the promotion of sustainable environmental practices. The session featured a thought provoking documentary called “The Overview Effect” which highlighted the fragility of the earth and evoked emotions regarding our individual responsibility to protect and preserve our Planet for future generations. Mrs Natasha Holder, Toastmaster and Transformational Coach delivered an inspirational speech on the Power of One. She flagged the importance of each person deciding to make a change, which can have an impact on our environment and by passionately pursuing that change transformation occurs way beyond the acts of that one individual.
